New Property Conserved: Minter Creek |
| | GPC recently secured a new conservation easement at Minter Creek! The easement is 21 acres, and will protect more than 1,300 feet of Minter Creek and 1,900 feet of it's tributaries. The property includes lots of wetlands and streams that provide excellent salmon habitat for coho and chum salmon as well as the threatened Puget Sound steelhead trout. The landowners have been, and continue to be, excellent stewards of this vital habitat. This conservation easement was purchased with funding from the Puget Sound Acquisition and Restoration Fund through the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office, and from Pierce County Conservation Futures. Volunteers Needed! Support our Land Labs Program |
| | This fall, GPC will be leading local students on a series of field trips to our wilderness preserves as part of the Land Labs program, where students get to connect with nature through hands-on, standards-meeting science lessons on GPC preserves. This is a great opportunity to get experience and training in the fast-growing environmental education field, explore some lesser-known wilderness preserves, and make a difference for underserved students in Bremerton. We need volunteers to help make this happen! Volunteers will commit to one training session in July and at least one field trip in the fall. Anyone interested in learning more can fill out the interest form below, or email us at landlabs@greatpeninsula.org |
