In Mason County: GPC volunteers and staff visited Klingel-Bryan-Beard Wildlife Refuge to remove invasive blackberry and scotch broom that were outcompeting the trees planted in 2022. Despite the atmospheric river, they saved dozens of baby Douglas fir and shore pine trees from being overwhelmed by blackberries! |

In North Kitsap: In partnership with the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe, the stewardship team hosted volunteers to help plant hundreds of bareroot trees in ongoing restoration work on the Martha John Creek Preserve. These will be part of a project there to determine if restoration plantings in mulch dramatically increase plant survival. Stay tuned for more updates later this year! |

|  | Join us on Saturday, February 17th from 10am-12pm, as we learn about the many winter residents of our region and the strategies they use to survive and flourish! We will be exploring the diverse pockets of Klingel, considering some of the research taking place in and around Lynch Cove, and taking a short trip to neighboring Theler Wetlands Nature Preserve.
When: Saturday, Feb 17th from 10:00am to 12:00pm

| | |  | Join Great Peninsula Conservancy for our brand new stewardship work party series: “Coarse Woody Debris Countdown!” Come out on February 24th to contribute to one of GPC’s most ambitious restoration projects, learn about habitat restoration in young forests, and spend a Saturday moving logs with some neat folks! | February 2024 marks the 50th year anniversary of the Boldt Decision, which reaffirmed the rights of Northwest Treaty Tribes to harvest and manage salmon across Washington.
GPC is proud of our partnerships with tribes within our working region and wanted to highlight this important day in history. Our staff gained a deeper understanding of this history from a training developed by The Whitener Group (TWG), a tribal member-owned consulting firm, and the Nature Conservancy. We highly recommend taking this training, even if you aren't a conservation professional. |
