In the spring of 2023, entomologists Dawn Dockter, David Onstad, and Mark Webb approached GPC about sampling bumble bees on GPC lands to help the Pacific Northwest Bumble Bee Atlas effort. GPC staff connected this group with the Davis Family Farm conservation easement and with the addition of farmer Ken VanBuskirk "The Bumblers" were born!
Join GPC on June 22nd from 10am-12pm for a fun filled day learning about the Bumble Bee Atlas effort alongside "The Bumblers" in the amazing 140-acre flower, fruit, and vegetable farm that has been managed by the Davis Family for four generations!
The PNW Bumble Bee Atlas is a regional effort sponsored by the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation to survey bumble bee habitat.
Accessibility: Please come prepared to walk at least a quarter of a mile. This event will involve getting up close and personal with a variety of insects -- especially bumble bees. If you have known allergies to insects or pollen, please use your best judgment about deciding if and how you will participate in the event. As always, coming prepared for outdoor activities means coming prepared with any emergency medications you may require.
For more information reach out to Gabriel Newton, GPC's community engagement coordinator, at gabriel@greatpeninsula.org.
