Filucy Bay Preserve Grows to 119 Acres!

Great Peninsula Conservancy’s Filucy Bay Preserve protects 119 acres of beautiful shoreline, salt marsh, and forest near Longbranch on Key Peninsula. At the end of July, a generous community member purchased two small properties and donated them to Great Peninsula Conservancy to expand the preserve and protect an additional 200 feet of estuary shoreline! 

Earlier this spring, GPC worked with community partners and volunteers, including the KGI Watershed Council and Gig Harbor Rotary Foundation, to support stewardship staff with restoration efforts at the public access site.

Events

On Saturday, October 15th, join Great Peninsula Conservancy and Mason Conservation District in taking action for Puget Sound Orca Recovery Day! GPC and MCD staff will work with volunteers to remove invasive blackberry and scotch broom along the estuary shoreline at the Klingel-Bryan-Beard Wildlife Refuge.

Help improve this habitat for salmon and for the resident orcas who depend on them for food! The day will also include a guided walk, refreshments, and a chance to learn about other organizations helping to better our orcas. 

July Walk & Talk

Davis Farm

GPC's July Walk & Talk partnered with the Mason Historical Society for a visit to the Davis Family Farm near Belfair! Ken & Peggy VanBuskirk hosted a tour of the farm, shared the history, and provided beautiful bouquets of fresh farm flowers. Great Peninsula Conservancy holds an easement on the farm, ensuring its preservation in perpetuity!

Over the past decade, partners including the Tribes, County, and community groups have conserved more than 3,500 acres of Port Gamble Forest Heritage Park. Now you can conserve and restore even more forest through the purchase of timber rights.
