GPC's next Walk and Talk will focus on our stewardship program's goal to maintain and improve the ecological integrity of forestlands by increasing forest structure and species diversity.
Join us on Saturday, October 22nd from 9-11 am to hear Jaal Mann, Lead Forester with Northwest Natural Resource, and Adrian Wolf, GPC's Stewardship Manager, lead a walk through Grovers Creek Preserve where GPC will be implementing forest conservation practices to improve forest health. The tour will include a visit to a stand where patch openings will be created to improve structural diversity, and an overstocked Douglas fir stand that will be thinned to allow the biggest trees to get bigger, while also allowing light to reach the forest floor to reinitiate understory vegetation. The guides will also share information about a project, supported with funds by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, that is using state of the art acoustic monitoring devices to understand how birds respond to the forest practices.
